Academic Clinical Fellowships

What is an Academic Clinical Fellowship?

Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) posts are run-through training posts for doctors entering specialist training who have outstanding potential for development as a researcher and/or educationalist.

An ACF offers dedicated time for the trainee to develop academic skills while working towards preparing an application for a training fellowship to undertake a higher degree.

Funding for ACFs is available for a maximum of three years (four years for GPs) to allow for completion of clinical training, 25% of which is spent in academic training.

What specialties are ACF posts available in?

Every year in Southampton we appoint ACFs in a variety of specialties.  For details of posts that are currently available, please visit our recruitment page.

If you are considering applying for an ACF post, a preliminary discussion with the dedicated Academic Lead for that specialty is welcome.
