Hi, I'm Carina Gomes and I studied BSc Anthropology within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

The course challenged me with a wide variety of cross-cultural programmes and allowed me to develop my skills.

Q: Why did you choose to undertake your studies in Anthropology at the University of Southampton?

After visiting several universities, I felt that the University of Southampton had the best anthropological programme, allowing me to complete other modules in Social Sciences as well as subjects outside of it. Furthermore, it is one of the top ranked universities in the UK offering a wealth of brilliant facilities. The open day at Southampton cemented by decision when I attended the social science talk where Nick Rayner (Head of Anthropology) discussed the prospectus and showed great enthusiasm for the subject.

Q: What did you enjoy about studying Anthropology at Southampton?

I enjoyed the variety available to us students throughout the three years alongside the support available at any point if needed. Some modules were particularly interesting and unique to Southampton. Therefore they were unavailable at other universities offering Anthropology as a degree.

Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

I have gained many new skills studying Anthropology and a greater confidence within my own work. The course challenged me with a wide variety of cross-cultural programmes and allowed me to develop my skills in analysing, exposed me to new insightful knowledge and gave me a strong qualification in which to proceed into the next steps of my life.
