Hi, I'm Joanna Malone and I studied BSc Applied Social Sciences within Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Studying here has given me a boost in confidence and has made me feel able to voice my opinions amongst my peers, as well as lecturers.

Q: Why did you choose to undertake your studies in Applied Social Sciences at the University of Southampton?

After being offered places from three other universities, I made the decision to come to Southampton because of its position in the league tables and I am very glad I chose here in the end.

Q: What did you enjoy about studying Applied Social Sciences at Southampton?

I liked the fact that the course was small and everyone got to know each other really well and everyone listened to each other’s ideas equally. The modules themselves were also very interesting and opened your eyes to things you never would have thought of beforehand.

Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

I have been able to improve my writing skills and structuring arguments. Studying here has also given me a boost in confidence and has made me feel able to voice my opinions amongst my peers, as well as lecturers.

I was also a member of the university pop and gospel choir which was extremely fun and I have met some of my closest friends there. I also went on tour with the choir to Barcelona and sang there; it has definitely been the best three years of my life.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

I am going to take a gap year to earn some money before I do a Masters in Anthropology.
