Hi, I'm Olivia Burke and I studied BSc Applied Social Sciences (Anthropology) within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

Staff members were always extremely helpful and approachable which helped build my confidence in my academic ability.

Q: Why did you choose to undertake your studies at the University of Southampton?

I chose to go to Southampton firstly based on its reputation and its emphasis on research and secondly, because I fell in love with the campus and the city.
It was also one of the only universities that offered such an interesting Anthropology course, with the option of taking modules from lots of other disciplines.

Q: What do you enjoy about studying at Southampton?

I enjoyed my time at Southampton immensely. The campus itself has great facilities such as Hartley Library, the sports centre, the SU shop, countless cafes, a cinema...
The Applied Social Sciences staff members were always extremely helpful and approachable which helped build my confidence in my academic ability. Additionally, I made lots of friends and was never short of things to do.

Q: What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

Primarily I have managed to achieve my degree, a 2:1 in Anthropology which I am very happy with. However, I have also matured, gained confidence and learned life lessons that all come with the university experience.

Q: What are your plans for the future?

I plan to get into the field of Market Research as I really enjoyed creating my own research project in the form of my dissertation and I believe a degree from such a research-orientated university will have helped prepare me for this.
