Amy Tobitt BSc Applied Social Sciences (Criminology), 2011
Working in the Prison Service
Hi, I'm Amy Tobitt and I studied BSc Applied Social Sciences (Criminology) within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.
I found that the University of Southampton had the friendliest atmosphere and the most exciting course syllabus.
When I was deciding which university to apply to I attended several different open days, but I found that the University of Southampton had the friendliest atmosphere and the most exciting course syllabus.
Throughout my three years of study, the lecturers were extremely enthusiastic and always willing to offer their support when I needed it. The support from the staff was fantastic. I achieved things I never thought I could. There was a strong emphasis on self-directed study, which was daunting at first but improved my confidence and self-esteem, better preparing me for the job market.
Since graduating, I have been able to secure a job in the Prison Service, where it is necessary to be confident working autonomously but also as a member of a team – both are skills that the University of Southampton has provided me with.
