Hi, I'm Gerry Del-Guercio and I studied BSc Sociology within Social Sciences: Sociology, Social Policy & Criminology at the University of Southampton.

Going to university broadens the mind and teaches you so much. I'm so pleased I did it.

Professional singer Gerry Del-Guercio has always been interested in people. The Londoner graduated with a BSc Sociology in 2003 and enjoyed finding out how communities work. "Going to university was a milestone for me.  A friend had gone to Southampton earlier and I'd always thought that would be a good place for me. When I got there, I knew I was right," he says.

Gerry says his undergraduate years were life-changing: "Moving away from home, getting to know all sorts of new people both from the UK and overseas, was an incredibly important experience. Going to university broadens the mind and teaches you so much. I'm so pleased I did it."

During his time at Southampton he combined his academic work with his love of music and took the first steps towards his eventual career. "Dance music was very popular at that time. My friends and I put on some events then we decided to form a band.  At the start, we all came from the same corridor in the Glen Eyre hall of residence.  One was in Computer s=Science and another was an Archaeologist," he says.  Some of his university friends are still in SixNationState; the band has toured the UK, Europe and America. They are currently working on their second album.
