Criminology rankings climb in the Guardian University Guide

Published: 30 September 2020

Our Criminology programmes now feature in the top 20 in the 2021 Guardian University Guide. Criminology at the University of Southampton ranks 19th in the UK and 4th in the Russell Group.

Professor Jenny Fleming, Head of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, commented: ”Criminology has been a major focus for the University of Southampton over the past eight years. We have expanded our team and consistently update our module offerings. Our BSc Criminology and Psychology joint honours provides students with a British Psychology Society Accreditation as well as their undergraduate degree award. “

The Guardian University Guide is designed to focus on undergraduate study. The guide uses eight different scores including student feedback, student-to-staff ratio, student spending, entry requirements and employment prospects to create a Guardian score.

We received particularly strong employment and value-added scores. The employment score looks at the percentage of students who achieve, graduate-level jobs or in further study at professional or HE level withing fifteen months of graduation. And the value-added score compares students’ degree results with their entry-level qualifications to show effective teaching.
