Research degrees

The University of Southampton welcomes applications from students who are interested in pursuing full- or part-time postgraduate research in sociology, social policy and criminology, as well as related areas such as social psychology and web science. We are interested in applications from students who wish to undertake research in areas of sociology, social policy, or criminology, or who wish to pursue interdisciplinary research in the areas of population change, health and wellbeing; sustainability, environment and resilience; learning, knowledge and behaviour; global economies and business innovation; citizenship, governance and secruity; or the Social/computational interface. However, we also welcome applications from students who wish to undertake research in areas that are directly associated with other staff research interests.

Postgraduate research projects in sociology, social policy and criminology are eligible for studentships under the new ESRC South Coast Doctoral Training Centre pathways.

Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology forms part of Economic, Social and Political Sciences, which is located in the Faculty of Social Sciences.
