Yadira Sánchez Benítez is a Criminology and Human-Centred AI Doctoral Student at the Faculty of Social Sciences & Web Science Institute.

Fellow at Software Sustainability Institute.

As part of my PhD, I am researching digital exclusion as social harm and co-designing digital tools with communities to support community-based algorithmic ecosystems.

Within my PhD I am trying to bring my background of working as a software engineer with my rural Mexican upbringing by creating spaces and pathways to collaborative design and creation of technologies rooted in the communities’ ways of life. My aims are not of rapid production, but of an organic, slow-building of technologies that are more sustainable and accessible by also questioning why a technology should be built or not.

Cultivating the application of art, code (creative coding), hardware, critical and situated approaches. More on my site.

Fellow of the Software Sustainability Institute
