Through our Careers and Employability service , you are given guidance and support throughout your studies and including post-studies for up to three years after graduation.

Careers and Employability Service

The University's Careers and Employability Service service is based on the Highfield Campus and offers support in a range of areas:

• impartial advice on occupations and career options
• employability events
• skills checks
• advice on application processes
• information on graduate destinations

• tailored advice for sociology and social policy students

Destinations

A degree in sociology and/or social policy or any of our applied economic, social and political sciences programmes can be an immediate door-opener to many fields. It can lead to a broad range of career opportunities in areas such as:

• central and local government
• social science research (eg at a university, for the government or in an independent research institute)
• police and probation work
• private security
• prison service
• voluntary sector
• human resources
• social services
• social work
• education
• international organisations (EU, OECD, UN)
• third sector (charities, NGOs)

During my degree I had the opportunity to get involved with Southampton's Enactus scheme (formally Students In Free Enterprise) including representing the UK in Washington in the SIFE World Cup. I was able to interact with people from all over the world and learn about their cultures.
