I took part in the Social Sciences Buddy Scheme for the new Freshers this year which was really rewarding and fun.

Why did you choose to come and study at Southampton?

I loved the mixture of campus and city here at Southampton. I thought the campus was so green and pretty but also I loved the idea of being able to easily catch a bus down to the city centre and the shopping centre! My course seemed really interesting and the lecturers were really helpful on the Open Days and answered all of my questions.

What is it like studying here?

All of my lecturers are infectiously passionate about their subjects and love to talk about their own research which is really interesting. The halls of residence are a great place to meet new people and give you a secure and friendly environment in which to start your journey here. The facilities are great, especially the library where we all spend a lot of our time!

What are you enjoying most about your course?

I have really enjoyed the seminars which encourage debate and force you to use your new knowledge to put a point across to a group. I find it useful to talk through content in order to understand it better and seminars are a great opportunity to do this.

Do you have the opportunity to study modules outside of your core subject area?

I have opportunities to pick modules from a variety of other areas, such as philosophy, archaeology, anthropology and criminology and this has been really interesting.

What have been your Southampton ‘highlights’ so far?

I took part in the Social Sciences Buddy Scheme for the new Freshers this year which was really rewarding and fun. I have really enjoyed being a part of the meditation society and learning an important new skill. The biggest highlight by far as been the people I have met and the memories that I have created with them.
