Hi, I'm Samantha Lindars and I studied BSc Applied Social Sciences (Criminology with Psychological Studies) within Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Taking a couple of modules outside the course allowed me to successfully pursue a teaching career. I will be beginning a primary PGCE in September.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Southampton?

I chose Criminology with Psychological studies because it sounded interesting and at the time I was particularly interested in pursuing a career in the police force or a job relating to psychology.

What did you like best about the University?

One of the best parts of Southampton is the atmosphere of the campus. The library was well-equipped and very useful. I also enjoyed the flexibility within my course such as the option of taking modules outside the course. I took the teaching student ambassador module which was really enjoyable and has specifically helped me with my career path.I also took a curriculum innovation module in year 2 and year 3, both are teaching modules, which I naturally enjoyed as that is my chosen career path. I loved how much smaller and personal the modules were, and so there were numerous seminars as opposed to lectures. I really enjoyed my third year module on Violent and Sexual offenders. It was very interesting and exactly what you'd expect from my degree. I also loved the visit to the prison I had in year 3 as part of the Penology module.

What are your future career plans?

After studying at Southampton I was able to go on to study at postgraduate level. Taking a couple of modules outside the course allowed me to successfully pursue a teaching career. I will be beginning a primary PGCE at Kingston University in September.
