Hi, I'm Andria Lyssiotou and I studied BSc Economics within Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.

The academic faculty has been very supportive and friendly and always willing to advise and help students.

Why did you choose to undertake your studies in Economics at the University of Southampton?

The University of Southampton is one of the leading universities in the UK, and former students always speak fondly about the high academic level, the lovely campus and the multicultural environment of the University. Browsing through the website, I was amazed to find the diverse range of courses offered by the University and I could not help but notice the extensive list of societies and clubs one could get involved with during the year.
Three years later, I am very happy that I chose to study at the University of Southampton. I absolutely loved the friendly and relaxed atmosphere on campus encouraging students to work hard for their courses and also be involved in a lot of activities that help to shape their personalities.

What did you enjoy about studying Economics at Southampton?

Economics at the University of Southampton has been a very interesting course that allowed me to get a firm knowledge of the subject. I particularly liked the flexibility in choosing courses from a range of optional modules and the structure of teaching, with lectures taking place in large auditorium rooms and tutorials taking the form of smaller group sessions, providing students with more personal support.
The Economics Division at the University of Southampton is well-known and respected for its high-quality research. The academic faculty has been very supportive and friendly and always willing to advise and help students. Also, the personal academic tutor enables students to solve any problems they may have with their studies. As an elected Student Representative, during the first and second year, I also found out that the concerns of the students are taken into a lot of consideration by the Faculty.

What have you been able to achieve as a result of studying at the University of Southampton?

I tried to get the most out of my academic studies and also be involved in various events around the campus. I was awarded the Best Overall Performance prize in the first and final year of my academic programme. I was also involved in various societies and helped to organise various events. For example, I was voted to be a member of the SUSU’s International Committee and the University supported us in organising and funding an International Cultural Night and a Quiz Night where people from different countries could promote their culture. I was also given the opportunity to be a member of the Meet and Greet team welcoming new students at the airport and guiding them to their residences. These have been a few of the amazing experiences that allowed me to mature and grow as a person.

What are your plans for the future?

In September I will be continuing with my graduate studies in Economics.
