Mr Ben Mason MPhys, MSc, MPhil
Teaching Fellow in Social Statistics and Demography, Departmental Undergraduate Admissions Officer, Departmental NSS Champion

Teaching Fellow in Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton.
After completing a Master of Physics degree in Theoretical physics in 1999, I embarked on a career in computer modelling and programming, later moving into project management. I returned to higher education in 2009 to study for an MSc in Social Statistics, which I completed in 2010. I subsequently obtained an MPhil in 2018 for my research into missing items in cross-national, time series data sets.
I am now the module co-ordinator for two of our undergraduate modules; 'Introduction to Quantitative Methods' and 'Research Methods in the Social Sciences', both run by Social Statistics and Demography within the Faculty of Social Sciences. As part of that role, I also enjoy teaching on those modules. I am also the undergraduate admissions tutor for the department, specifically for the degree programme 'Population and Geography', and am actively involved with Open days and Visit days, where I enjoy having the opportunity to meet prospective students and share my passion for our undergraduate degree programme.
