Dr David Clifford is Associate Professor in Demography within Economic, Social and Political Sciences at the University of Southampton.
David has research interests at the interface of demography and social policy.
Research on the voluntary sector describes patterns in the prevalence, funding, and growth of voluntary organisations.
Research in demography describes demographic trends in Central Asia, placing them within the context of macro-level social and economic changes during the late- and post-Soviet period.
David is also interested in issues at the intersection of these two main themes. For example, current research describes patterns in the country of operation of British charities working overseas, in a variety of international contexts.
David studied geography as an undergraduate (St Catherine’s College, Oxford), and Social Statistics (MSc) and Demography (PhD) as a postgraduate (University of Southampton).
