Maja Emilie Fuglsang Palmer is a Teaching Fellow in Gerontology at the University of Southampton.

I qualified with First Class Honours as an accredited Human Nutritionist (BSc Human Nutrition) in 2012 from London Metropolitan University.

I went on to do an MSc in Public Health at the University of Southampton. During my MSc I focused my research on older people and wrote my dissertation titled: ‘Older Men’s Health and Community Interventions’.

My PhD research focussed on the pathways into informal care provision using the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing waves 4 to 7. I have undertaken both cross-sectional and longitudinal data analysis to explore the predictors and effects of informal care provision in order to better guide policies to support informal care providers.

Research interests

The Centre for Population Change (CPC) http://www.cpc.ac.uk/

I am interested in the health and well-being of older people. In addition to social policies affecting informal care providers.

PhD supervision: Professor Maria Evandrou and Professor Athina Vlachantoni.

MPhil/PhD research: Pathways into informal care provision, supervised by Professor Maria Evandrou and Professor Athina Vlachantoni, funded by the ESRC CPC (SC-DTP)
