My main research focuses on population ageing in lower- and middle-income countries

I am currently a Visiting Fellow within the Department of Gerontology. I joined the department in 2017. My main research interest is relating to ageing and adult health in lower- and middle-income countries. I obtained my PhD in social statistics from the University of Southampton in 2017 and my research sought to understand the uptake of health insurance of the elderly in Ghana.

Before I studied partly in Germany and partly in the Netherlands. I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Management and Social Science (from the Ruhr-University Bochum) and a Master in Social Statistics (University of Southampton).

Research interests

My research interests are wide ranging and lie within the fields of demography and population ageing. My research focuses on social protection programmes for older people in developing country context.

Current Research Projects:

I am currently working as a Research Fellow in the ESRC/DFID project on the “impact of social pensions on multiple dimensions of poverty, subjective wellbeing and solidarity across generations”, led by Dr Gloria Langat and also including Prof. Maria Evandrou and prof. Jane Falkingham. The project focuses on social protection programmes for older people in Kenya. This research seeks to generate robust, urgently needed evidence to address critical knowledge gaps in order to inform policy debates and thinking on the further development of social protection programmes for older people in Africa.
