I am an ESRC-funded postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, based in the department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology.

My research interests are in behaviour change and public policy, particularly those behaviours and policies regarding the environment, energy, and transport.

My current research has two main strands. One is an examination of consumer attitudes to green regulation of the aviation industry through voluntary carbon offsets or mandatory carbon taxes. Another is on the impact of international migration on the green attitudes and behaviours of students.

Previously I worked as a Behavioural Insights researcher at Ofgem – the government regulator of the Energy industry – following my PhD studies at the University of Southampton. My PhD thesis, titled ‘“Nudging the jetset to offset”: Voluntary carbon offsetting for air travel’, looked at the opportunities and limitations of applying behavioural insights or ‘nudges’ to encourage green behaviours.

Research interests

Sustainable consumption; behavioural public policy; ‘Nudge’; practice theory; environmental sociology; hypermobility and aviation.
