Visiting professorships abroad

Published: 19 March 2009Origin: Politics and International Relations

Professor David Owen recently combined his duties at Southampton with a visiting professorship at the J.W. Goethe University, Frankfurt a/M. This post was funded by the Excellenzcluster Die Herausbildung normativer Ordnungen.

Professor Owen was invited to teach two ‘block seminars’ (highly intensive week long courses) on political theory topics in which he has a keen research interest: Justice, migration and transnational citizenship, and Nietzsche, perfectionism and post-structuralism. Professor Owen also presented a paper – ‘Being affected, being subjected and political normativity’ – to the Excellenzcluster colloquium conducted by Professor Rainer Forst and participated in a number of cluster activities.

Professor Owen has previously been DAAD Visiting Professor in Social and Political Theory at the Goethe University (2000) and has been invited to take up a fellowship at the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Bad Homberg in 2010.
