PAIR welcomes its first ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow

Published: 28 September 2010Origin: Politics and International Relations

Dr Cristiana Olcese has recently joined us as ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow, after completing her PhD at the University of Reading (2009).

Cristiana’s research interests are largely in the areas of social movements, art and culture. Aside from publishing articles based on her PhD dissertation on the relationship between art and politics in protests, she will contribute to the "Caught in the Act of Protest: Contextualizing Contestation", a European collaborative project whose British team at Southampton is led by Dr Clare Saunders. By investigating a specific group of participants (artist-activists), and their motives for using expressive media in the pursuit of social change, her work will qualitatively address some of the questions at the heart of the broader, mostly quantitative, project. In her year at Southampton Cristiana will also organise a C2G2 seminar on art and politics, contribute teaching to the module 'Politics of Climate Change', and pursue advanced methods training.

You can find out more about Cristiana on her staff profile.
