Published: 15 November 2011

On Tuesday 15th November Dan Corry a former Head of the Policy Unit in No 10 Downing Street came to talk to first year Politics and International Relation students and answer questions about life at the heart of government.

Dan was Head of the Number 10 Policy Unit and Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister on the Economy from 2007 to 2010. He has been Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers in the Treasury and has worked as a special adviser to the Secretary of State in the Education Department as well as at DTI and DCLG. He now heads up a major charity New Philanthropy Capital http://www.philanthropycapital.org/.

Dan spoke about decisions and policy agendas he helped set. He talked about how he got to that position and said that the nearest TV capture of what they did was more "West Wing" than the "Thick of It". One student was asked if Gordon Brown threw anything at him. The answer was no.
