International recognition for Southampton’s Professor of Government

A prominent University of Southampton professor has been internationally recognised for his achievements.

Rod Rhodes has been awarded the International Research Society for Public Management (IRSPM) and Routledge Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Public Management Research.

The prize is awarded by the IRSPM annually to someone who has made a substantial contribution to public management research.

In their citation the IRSPM say they selected Rod because he is “not only one of the most well-known public administration scholars but also someone who has renewed his research and research topics throughout his life. He was a prominent scholar in network theory in the 1980s and 1990s, but also an interesting observant of the changes in administrative life after that and always good for an interesting provocative debate at conferences and seminars. Truly a remarkable and significant scholar in the field.”

Rod is a life Vice-President and former Chair and President of the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom; a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia; and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK).

“I am honoured to have been selected by the IRSPM for this and look forward to receiving it at the ceremony in Prague in April,” said Rod.
