Researchers from across Social Sciences at the University of Southampton will be sharing their knowledge as part of the Economic and Social Research Council’s (ESRC) Festival of Social Science 2015.

The ESRC Festival of Social Sciences takes place across the country from Saturday 7 – Saturday 14 November and will feature more than 200 different events including public debates, conferences, workshops, interactive seminars, film screenings and virtual exhibitions.

The University of Southampton will hold four events in the local region to highlight key areas of their innovative social sciences research, from exploring the World Wide Web to getting a behind-the-scenes insight into the local prison.

Ros Edwards, Director of research Research for Social Sciences said: “This is an excellent opportunity to share the exciting research that we are conducting here at the University of Southampton. We hope that it will open people’s eyes to the key challenges we are facing in today’s society and how our research is making a difference.”

Other events organised by the University of Southampton will include a school event, Spotting weapons in baggage X-ray, whereby Southampton psychologists will track eye movements to show cognitive processing. A session entitled, The problem with ‘immigration street’: debunking myths, aimed at sixth form students, will encourage them to debate the impact of immigration in the UK.
