Event details

In 25 years the World Wide Web has grown from nothing to over three billion users worldwide and is now embedded in the everyday practices of individuals, families, governments, industry and businesses.

ESRC Festival of Social Sciences

As we use the Web we leave a digital trace of our activities through searching with browsers, visiting web pages and using social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia.

This event showcases the Web Macroscope, developed by the University of Southampton Web Science Institute to display real time and historic data of these online digital traces. We will use the Macroscope to explore what we can learn about our local city region from the web data being generated all around us and explore both the challenges and opportunities of these data.
