I am a PhD student interested in measuring population health and the distribution of health resources to plan for public health care.

My personal and professional interest is to strength public health systems in order to improve population health status.

Medical technologies for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases have shown to improve population health. Despite there are a range of health care interventions, in some countries, those technologies are not accessible to the population. In those countries, the provision of public health services can be strengthen. Some strategies to improve public health system include increase the public budget, the redistribution of resources, targeting populations to introduce fair access to health and introduction of regulatory mechanisms. Moreover, in order to plan for the redistribution of resources and to identify possible population targets, greater understanding of access to health and equity in the distribution of healthcare resources is required.

My research focuses in understanding population health distribution, health services utilization and equity in potential access to public health in Guatemala. My research project aims to identify population catchment areas with reduced allocation of health care resources, in which the provision of public health care can be enhanced.

Research interests

- Population health trends and distribution

- Population dynamics for planning health care services

- Access to health care
