Chloe is a postgraduate research student within the division of Social Statistics & Demography at the University of Southampton.

Upon completion of a BSc in Population and Geography at the University of Southampton, I went on to study an MSc in Social Statistics. Throughout my studies, I developed an interest in global health and specifically life-course approaches to health. This has led to a narrower field of research, which focuses on early years nutrition and infant feeding behaviours in developing contexts, and the long-term health outcomes for mother and child.

Changing disease profiles of emerging economies, where non-communicable diseases are increasingly dominating the burden, highlights the importance of lifestyle and dietary choices in the early years of life.

A personal interest in global sustainable farming practices and the implications for human health has further nurtured my interest in nutritional health outcomes.

Research interests

The primary focus of my research concentrates on infant feeding practices in China, to discern whether rapid, socio-economic reform and changing gender roles have altered breastfeeding behaviours. A particular focus of this project is the effect of urbanisation on infant feeding practices and the determinants of the initiation and duration of breastfeeding in different contexts.

A further direction for this project involves investigating complementary feeding practices and the impact on nutrition-related non-communicable disease, with analysis involving longitudinal methods.
