Current research
Ellie's research explores the sociology of veganism and religion within the context of late modern Great Britain, focusing specifically on everyday experience among Jewish, Christian, and Muslim vegans in the UK. She is interested in how religion and veganism come together and what this experience looks like, as well as the ways in which vegan Jews, Christians, and Muslims are navigating their religious and cultural beliefs and practices in line with veganism. She is exploring various themes such as everyday experience, food practices, and understandings of both Abrahamic and vegan beliefs, practices, and values. She hopes her findings will also help to improve vegan advocacy efforts, so we can have more meaningful conversations with religious communities.
Ellie is a qualitative researcher and in her PhD, she is using a range of research methods, including semi-structured interviews, diary methods, virtual participant observation, and an autoethnography.
Ellie's supervisors are Dr Bindi Shah, Dr Emma Roe, and Dr Heidi Armbruster.
Ellie started her PhD on 30 March 2020.
