Kartini Rahman is a Postgraduate Research Student within Gerontology at the University of Southampton

I have completed a BA (Hons) in Sociology and Politics from University of Kent, and an MSc in Social Research from London Metropolitan University. Since January 2013 I had been working at the Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) of Brunei Darussalam, as an Associate Researcher. CSPS is a think tank that provides input and policy advice to the Brunei government on social and economic issues.

My work at CSPS has given me valuable on hand experience through a wide range of research projects. I was also able to be involved in discussions, presentations, workshops, and project management with stakeholders, and policy officials. I also have experience in how to conduct and manage fieldwork whilst working in close partnership with external researchers, other government analysts, and policy colleagues. The Brunei Health System Survey, which was run by CSPS in association with Research Triangle Institute International, was a consultancy project for the Ministry of Health in 2013. It was a memorable large-scale survey to be involved in as a fieldworker and an Associate Researcher. In 2015 I was involved in several studies on cross border expenditure in partnership with Monetary Authority Brunei Darussalam.

This included being appointed as a project coordinator for a workshop with high-level government officials and relevant stakeholders.

CSPS has given me the opportunity for career and skills development, hence I am currently a postgraduate researcher here at Southampton University, aiming to complete a PhD in Gerontology.
