Mia Tackney is a postgraduate research student within Social Statistics & Demography at the University of Southampton.

My research interests are in design of experiments. In many experiments in social science and medicine, participants become available for the experiment sequentially over time, and covariate information about the participant, such as age and prognostic factors, are taken before a treatment is assigned. My work investigates how decisions about treatment assignment should be made so that all treatment-covariate combinations are represented and estimates of treatment effect are as precise as possible. In particular, I look into non-myopic approaches, where treatment allocation of the current patient depends not only on the treatments and covariates of the patients in the study so far, but also the impact of possible future treatment assignment. This work is relevant for the design of clinical trials, and in particular the design of personalised clinical trials which aims to identify effective combinations of treatments and a particular type of covariate called biomarkers.
