Low cost nanotechnology for healthcare

The University of Southampton has been awarded £1.3m under the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council’s 'Grand Challenges' programme to develop a new point of care blood testing device.

This draws together Southampton's scientific expertise in engineering, chemistry and medicine with social scientific expertise on innovation and organisational change in health care.

A major component of the project is a prospective study led by Professor Susan Halford (Sociology and Social Policy) with Ms Katy Lyle, which will focus on the potential users for this device. The Principal Investigator is Professor Peter Ashburn, Head of the Nano Research Group at Electronics and Computer Science at Southampton.
