There are just under one million people employed in the UK media industry, according to the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES). In contrast the publishing industry is smaller, with 148,000 people employed in the UK.

Due to the varied nature of careers in media, publishing and journalism the skills required will not be universal. An analytical mind and other indispensable skills such as effective oral and written communication, problem-solving, data analysis and independent thought that you should gain from your degree will be useful.
