The SoNG Bachelor (LMHD) and Master (VHP) Prizes

Published: 25 March 2014

The Southampton Neuroscience Group (SoNG) is a cross faculty cohort aimed at promoting brain research across the University. This is a Southampton thematic represented by the neuroscience USRG that has strong representation in biological science, life sciences, medicine, psychology, health science and engineering. The neuroscience thematic is also strongly represented in our Undergraduate and Master Education programs.

In recognition of this and in keeping with the University's wider ethos for Research led Education; SoNG has initiated a Bachelor's (LMHD) and a Master's (VHP) Research Project Prize. This will be available, in competition, to students who have produced an outstanding research project (>70% overall mark) that is supported by a suitable supervisory recommendation.  A monetary prize (£200) will be available to the winning student who will be encouraged to present a poster describing their work as part of the annual SoNG meeting where they will also be awarded their prize (25th September, Avenue Campus).

Students should submit their Bachelor's or Master's project, associated assessment (mark and breakdown), a brief 250 word lay summary (for non-science educated person) and their willingness to present their work at the SoNG meeting to Debbie Buck (db5@soton.ac.uk) by 31st of July. This should make clear whether the application is for the LMHD or the VHP prize.

Shortlisted candidates will be ranked and the winners selected by a team made up of PhD, post-doc and junior academic.
