Synaptic Profiling, Insulin Secretion, and Lifespan

The SBS External Seminar Series starts again next week with a talk by Dr Queelim Ch'ng from Kings College London. Dr Ch'ng is interested in the structure and function of synapses and has developed imaging based approaches to investigate this in C.elegans. He uses this as a system to investigate the ways in which the environment and aging impact on synaptic structure and function. Neuropeptides, particularly those that are members of the insulin like family are important in determining the effects of environment and aging and he is investigating this possibility in the context of synapse function. He has also promised some preliminary data using current high pressure electron microscopy and 3D tomography which are being used to better define synaptic and other significant cellular sub-compartments. Details of the seminar are given below:-
