Event details

Research into the fundamental mechanisms underlying neurological disease processes is an important and rapidly developing area, with huge potential significance, not least for developing novel therapeutic approaches. This joint meeting between the European Society for Neurochemistry and the Biochemical Society will bring together basic and clinical scientists, early-career and senior investigators to explore the recent advances in this area.

Description

The programme includes three full days of science arranged in a number of plenary lectures, symposia and mini-symposia with talks from world-leading scientists as well as poster sessions, and opportunities for oral presentations selected from among the submitters of abstracts.  The social events in this world heritage city which accompany the scientific programme will promote interactions between all participants at the meeting.  Networking and social activities include a reception at the Ancient Roman Baths and a conference dinner.  We look forward to welcoming you to Bath in 2013.

Programme

Topics

  • Protein degradation pathways and neurodegeneration
  • RNA processing in neurodegenerative disease
  • Neuronal protein traffic in health and disease
  • 'Disease in a Dish'- Induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell derived models for neurodegenerative diseases
  • Alpha-synuclein's function found: a new avenue for research into Parkinson's disease
  • Signalling in astroglial networks in physiology and pathophysiology
  • Oxidative stress in neurodegenerative disease: How does it happen and how do you fight it?
  • Brain D-Serine in synaptic pathology and diseases
  • Molecular mechanisms of degeneration and regeneration in disorders of the peripheral nervous system
  • Brain repair and cannabinoid signalling
  • Astrocytes: the Good, the bad and the ugly
  • Mechanisms of motor neuronal death in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

Reviews by the speakers, based on their presentations at this major international meeting, will be published exclusively in Biochemical Society Transactions (Volume 41, part 6).

This meeting has been approved by the Society of Biology for the purpose of CPD, this event may be counted as 66 CPD credits.
