This is an update on SEC, and other ethics-related events going on at the University over the next couple of months.

Taking Pregnancy Seriously in Metaphysics, Ethics and Epistemology - Workshop 2

Challenging Questions and Ethical Obligations: The Ethics of Everyday Practice

The British Socity for Ethical Theory Annual Conference

13th - 14th July, Avenue Campus

The programme of the conference, which is being hosted this year here in Southampton, has now been confirmed, The speakers will be Garrett Cullity (Adelaide), Melis Erdur (Tel Aviv), Anca Gheaus (Sheffield), Shelly Kagan (Yale), Errol Lord (Pennsylvania), Brian McElwee (Oxford), Baroness Onora O'Neill (Cambridge), Adina Preda (Limerick), Bernhard Salow (MIT) and Nick Smyth (Brown), addressing topics including welfare, parental rights, duties to future generations, partiality, and human rights.

Elsewhere in the Coming Weeks

 

The above SEC events are running alongside a range of other interesting ethics-related events taking place across the University …

- The Centre for Law, Ethics and Globalisation (CLEG) will be holding its Annual Lecture on Thursday 30th April 2015. Shaheen Sardar Ali (Warwick) will speak on 'Globalisation: Challenges and Opportunities'.

- The Centre for Health Ethics and Law (HEAL) will be holding its inaugural Annual Lecture on Thursday 7th May. Jonathan Montgomery (UCL) will speak on 'Bioethics as Governance Practice'.

- Philosophy’s AHRC-funded Normativity research group will be hosting its third workshop on 12th June, addressing how theories in meta-ethics might bear on questions concerning epistemic normativity. The speakers will be Terence Cuneo(Vermont), Anne Meylan (Fribourg), Michael Ridge (Edinburgh) and Kristoffer Ahsltrom-Vij (Kent).
