Social Equality and Relative Poverty Event

Human life in the 21st century continues to generate new and challenging moral questions. The Ethical Challenges lectures explore such questions and the way philosophy can illuminate them. Having previously addressed issues arising out of climate change, ownership of natural resources, and freedom of the press, the 2014 lecture will explore two key concepts in our moral and political thought, asking just what we understand poverty to be and what it is that we seek when we seek to establish social equality. Our speaker is Professor Jonathan Wolff, Professor of Philosophy at UCL, regular Guardian columnist, and member of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics and the Homicide Review Group. His books include Ethics and Public Policy, The Human Right to Health, and Why Read Marx Today?
