Sport and Wellbeing Newsletter #01
27/04/2020

We at Sport and Wellbeing hope that this newsletter finds you comfortable and healthy during this unexpected period of lockdown.

In recent news, the UK government have announced that the lockdown will be extended for a further three weeks. To many, this will be far from pleasant news and we at Sport and Wellbeing understand that communication is more vital than ever in this difficult time. To this end, we have arranged this brief newsletter in order to keep you updated with the goings on over at Sport and Wellbeing.

Facilities
We had previously advertised that all facilities will reopen on the 20th of April. In response to advice from the UK government, we will no longer be able to proceed as planned. We will look to update customers with information on when we can reopen as and when this information is available. Since our staff are now working from home, we have moved several facilities online which you can read about below.

Sport and Wellbeing to Support COVID-19 Vaccine Trials
Sport and Wellbeing is proud to announce that we will be supporting researchers at the University of Southampton in their ongoing trials into developing a vaccine for COVID-19. Work on the vaccine began in January and will continue into the following months with trials set to take place within Jubilee Sports Centre. Of course, this is exciting news and we look forward to providing an environment that aids in the studies against the pandemic.

Virtual Fitness Classes
These are challenging times for the world and, now more than ever, it’s important to look after both our physical and our mental wellbeing. The good news is that physical and mental health share a wonderful symbiosis which can allow us to take care of both elements at once! Exercise not only changes your body; it changes your mind, attitude and mood.

Exercise is a natural and effective anti-anxiety treatment that is also enormously valuable in the battle against stress, worry and depression. It relieves tension, boosts physical and mental energy, and enhances our sense of well-being through the release of endorphins - powerful chemicals in your brain that energize your spirits and make you feel good.

Exercise can also serve as a fantastic distraction, allowing you to find some quiet time to focus on something other than our current situation. So tune in and join in with Sport and Wellbeings virtual workout video series - there's something to suit everyone from Pilates to Yoga and HIIT to Conditioning....everybody's welcome!

As some of our readers may already be aware, our operations team have been dutifully providing a wide range of virtual classes, available for free via our official Sport and Wellbeing Facebook page. These can be performed in the comfort of your own home and are an excellent way of keeping fit and remaining active without needing to go outdoors.

If you happen to miss any classes or find that they are not held at a convenient time then don’t worry! All fitness classes are archived on our YouTube page for further viewing at a later time and can be carried out at any point. Simply find the class you are looking for under videos.

As of Monday the 20th of April, we will be increasing the number of classes from one per day to two per day.
