To all of our customers and colleagues, Please find below a range of updates and offers relevant to Sport and Wellbeing.

Updates on Monday the 21st of June

Like many across the country, we are keenly watching the UK Government as they prepare to announce any changes planned for the existing UK social distancing guidelines. We are aware that the official updates will be made on Monday the 14th of June.

As such, we must clarify that we do not have a definite answer for what will change on Monday the 21st of June. However, please be assured that we are considering our options and making plans for a selection of possibilities, which we will hope to action as soon as the updates are made public.

Student Summer Festival

Sport and Wellbeing are excited to share that we are joining in with the Student Union to offer University of Southampton students a range of exciting opportunities available throughout June.

Included in these offerings are free Watersports courses, intended to give all attendees a taster of adventure on the water. These include RIB Ride and Paddleboarding Experiences and an Introduction to Windsurfing. These sessions are available from the 7th all the way up until the 16th of June – but we advise anyone interested to move quickly, as they are filling up fast.

Please also be advised that, for a limited time only, all Sport and Wellbeing fitness classes are free to anyone with a UoS Student Sports Pass. This includes the chance to take part in classes for Indoor Cycling, HIIT, Total Stretch and more, all at no extra cost! Make sure to take advantage of this opportunity before the final day of Friday the 18th of June.

You can book your place for either Watersports courses or Fitness Classes by accessing the JoinIn online booking portal, logging into the UoS Sport App, or emailing us directly at sportandwellbeing@soton.ac.uk.

Fitness Classes and Technique Clinics

For those of you who have been enjoying our current fitness classes, we are happy to share that our present fitness class timetable has been extended to the 25th of July. We do not have any plans to change booking capacity or venues at the moment, but, as ever, this is subject to change.

Our first Technique Clinic began on the 18th of May and since then we’ve been enormously grateful to see how popular and well-received they have been. As of the time of this newsletter’s publication, we have four left, to take place on the 9th, 14th, 17th, and 18th of June.

These Technique Clinics are a great way to gain knowledge on how to make the most of common types of resistance training equipment you’ll find in the gym, so if you’re feeling in need of some tips or advice then these are a fantastic opportunity. You can secure you spot by booking on the UoS Sport App. After the 18th, we won’t be running any more for the summer so be sure to get in quick!

Kid’s Camp

Kid’s Camp sessions are back! For three weeks over the August period, Sport and Wellbeing are delighted to be offering Kid’s Camp sessions for youths aged 5-14, providing a range of fun and exciting activities set throughout the day.

These are set for the weeks beginning the 2nd, the 9th, and the 16th of August. We have two types of activity camps, with one for children aged 5-7, and another for those aged 8+, priced £28.00 or £32.00 respectively.

Kid’s Camp sessions are available to book onto now, and can be done so by speaking to a member of staff at Jubilee Sports Centre reception. If you are looking to pay for your session via Childcare Vouchers, we ask for payment to be made in full via credit or debit card as a deposit. This deposit will then be refunded to you in full upon the acceptance of your Childcare Vouchers.

Active Nation Booking Process (Staff and Student)

As many of our customers are no doubt aware, all members with a University of Southampton Student or Staff subscription are entitled to free access at various Active Nation facilities across Southampton. We have since worked with Active Nation in order to streamline the process for making bookings and accessing the facilities!

By following this link, you will be able to make a booking up to 3 days in advance for pool and gym facilities at Chamberlayne Leisure Centre, The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex, and Bitterne Leisure Centre.

Parking Information

Customers are advised to be aware of the planned construction work set to take place adjacent to Jubilee Sports Centre. This project is set to begin over the summer, and will result in the full closure of the Jubilee Car Park.

Alternative parking options are available elsewhere on campus, with pay and display parking adjacent to Building 1 of Highfield Campus and staff parking available at the Broadlands Road Car Park – though please be aware that spaces may be limited owing to further demolition work.
