Jubilee Sports Centre expansion and car park closure
We are pleased to announce plans for the extension and refurbishment of our health and wellbeing facilities at the Jubilee Sports Centre on Highfield campus.
Our existing sports centre opened in 2004 and continues to be enjoyed by students, staff and the local community. Whilst the building and spaces remain of a reasonable standard it does lack a number of important facilities.
The new extension will house five new sports studios including a dedicated martial arts space and indoor cycling studio. The facility will also have speed climbing and top rope climbing to add to our current bouldering provision. The gym will also be modernised and improved
The new building has been designed to be respectful to neighbouring buildings, to connect to the outdoors and increase natural light, to be inclusive of all potential users and to meet our Low Carbon targets.
In order to facilitate this expansion, demolition works of several properties to the south of the Jubilee Sports Centre along University Road will begin in the New Year. However, preparatory works will begin on the 19th of November and will initiate the permanent closure of the car park adjacent to the current Jubilee Sports Centre.
The University will continue to monitor parking capacity and is considering multiple options as part of the Future Ways of Working project.
