The University of Southampton
Southampton Respiratory Imaging Group

About us

The broad aim of the imaging group is to develop new software tools and techniques to facilitate moving away from subjective, observer dependent assessment of lung disease, to quantitative, observer independent measurements of the disease state of the lung.  We will develop sensitive, reliable imaging tools as biomarkers for respiratory disease.

Key facts

The group has expertise in the field of respiratory image analysis, including drug deposition imaging, lung ventilation/perfusion imaging, SPECT/CT, PET/CT and HRCT.

We are also one of the few centres in the UK to be using probe-based Confocal Laser Endomicroscopy (pCLE) to study the structure of the lungs.
