Title: Lattice QCD at finite baryon density

Abstract: After a brief introduction to the sign problem of lattice QCD, I discuss
how the cold and dense region of QCD can be addressed by means
of effective lattice theories. These are analytically derived from full QCD
and valid either for heavy quarks close to the continuum, or for light
quarks on coarse lattices. While physical QCD parameters are still out of
reach, several qualitative features of of dense QCD can be extracted, like
the "silver blaze" behaviour and the nuclear liquid gas transition.
In addition, the existence of quarkyonic matter can be investigated directly
in QCD.
