Title: Violent nonlinear collapse inside hairy black holes

Abstract: Asymptotically flat black holes in electro-vacuum typically relax to a Kerr-(Newman) stationary
spacetime. In the presence of matter or negative cosmological constant, there exists however
``hairy’’ stationary black holes admitting extra degrees of freedom; these hairy black holes
appear naturally in the gravitational collapse of massive matter and, very recently, as a
holographic model of a superconductor in the context of AdS/CFT.
This presentation will first survey known results on the interior of dynamical non-hairy black
holes. Then I will present my recent work on hairy perturbations of the Reissner-Nordström
black hole interior, in which a dynamical mechanism -- violent nonlinear collapse – destroys the
Reissner-Nordström Cauchy horizon and forms a crushing singularity.
