Title: Using distribution-free uncertainty quantification to enhance searches for gravitational wave signals

Abstract: This talk will introduce Conformal Prediction, a distribution-free algorithm for augmenting arbitrary classification and regression algorithms with quantified and fully calibrated uncertainty estimates. I will motivate this work by comparing with classical threshold-based procedures used throughout astronomy and demonstrating a toy model. I will then demonstrate how conformal prediction can enhance the search for gravitational waves from compact binary coalescence events.
