CAS guidance for undergraduate and postgraduate students

How to get a CAS

In order to be eligible for a CAS you must hold an Unconditional Accepted or Unconditional Firm offer on your chosen course of study.

Once you hold an Unconditional Accepted or Unconditional Firm offer you will be sent an e-mail asking you to complete our University CAS Questionnaire.

You should then complete and return the CAS Questionnaire to cas.application@southampton.ac.uk

If you are studying at Postgraduate Research level, please return your completed CAS Questionnaire to SAAVISA@soton.ac.uk

Once we receive the CAS questionnaire, we try to process it within 7 working days (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). We will then send you an email containing your CAS Statement.

Applying for a visa

Further guidance and information on applying for a visa can be found on the Visa and Immigration Student Advice Service (VISAS Team) webpages. Students should record their CAS number in the visa application form. It is not necessary to submit the CAS Statement email with the visa application. The CAS will be valid for 6 months from the date of issue.

After You Have Obtained Your Visa

You should bring all relevant original evidence of academic and language qualifications with you on arrival in the UK. You should also bring your passport and visa or biometric visa card, if you have been issued one by the UKVI.

As soon as you arrive in Southampton, you will need to attend a Visa, Passport and Identity ‘Check In’ with Registry Services. Information about what you will need to do will be sent to you before you arrive.
