The University of Southampton
Student and Academic Administration

Student Financial Management

The University liaises with the Student Loans Company to ensure that students receive their loan payments by providing information about our programmes and their term dates, confirming that students are in attendance at the University, and talking to the Student Loans Company on behalf of students to resolve any problems with their loan payments.

SLC Payments

The Student Loan Company provides funds for UK and EU students to undertake first degrees, and initial teacher training programmes. It also handles some other special payments, like those under the DSA (Disabled Students’ Allowance) Scheme.

The Student Loans Company (SLC) pay money directly into student bank accounts from the beginning of the academic year.

Payments are made to students who have been assessed by Student Finance England, Wales, Northern Ireland or the Student Awards Agency for Scotland as having entitlement to student loan support after they are enrolled and confirmed by the University to the SLC as being ‘in attendance’.

For new students, if you selected an Institution other than the University of Southampton when you applied for your loan and transferred to the University of Southampton, please contact your Student Finance Authority or email the Student Records Team on enrol@soton.ac.uk or +44 (0)23 8059 9599.

All students must enrol with the University before the start of every academic year of their programme of study. Your attendance will then be confirmed to the SLC. Once attendance has been confirmed, the SLC will pay your maintenance directly into your bank account by electronic BACS transfer. Once attendance has been confirmed, the SLC will pay your maintenance directly into your bank account by electronic BACS transfer. This can take up to 5 working days to arrive in your bank account.
