The role of a Student Ambassador
Student Ambassadors trained by the Global Recruitment and Access and Social Mobility Team to support delivery of a variety of on and off campus activities, residential events and mentoring schemes.
Most events we work on involve working with young people from aged 10-18 years old. They are designed to raise aspirations and awareness of higher education, whilst encouraging students to consider applying to study at the University of Southampton.
These include; taster days, assemblies and workshops, HE/careers fairs, open days and campus tours, mentoring and e-mentoring and community outreach events.
All Student Ambassadors are required to attend compulsory training events, designed to provide an introduction to working with young people, child protection and presentation skills.
Once trained, Student Ambassadors will be added to a mailing list and work opportunities will be sent out via email. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of recruitment and community outreach events and activities.
Becoming a Student Ambassador is very rewarding – it not only develops your communication, leadership and teamwork skills, it also increases your employability and gives you the opportunity to work in a variety of settings. Working as a Student Ambassador can also contribute towards your Graduate Passport.
Lead Ambassador roles
Once you have been an Ambassador for a minimum of one year, you will have the opportunity to apply and train as a Lead Ambassador. Lead Ambassadors are experienced Ambassadors, capable of working without the direct supervision of the Global Recruitment and Access and Social Mobility team, at certain events. If you are selected and trained as a Lead Ambassador you will have the opportunity to earn a higher rate of pay.
