When will I receive my Offer of Accommodation

Offers of accommodation will be made once you have met any conditions of your offer to study and will be made in batches from the 10th August through to mid-September. We would recommend that you check your accommodation portal directly at least twice a week, and you can find the link below.

Please also check your registered university email account on a regular basis for any updates regarding accommodation.

You can also view further information and guidance through our frequently asked questions on the Universities dedicated website, which is regularly updated .

Further information regarding arrivals, moving in and FAQs can be found on our Arriving in Southampton page.

We are not able to provide offers of accommodation sooner for visa purposes, but we would recommend that you view the Visa website or contact directly if you need any support with making a visa application.

You will still be able to follow the steps on our welcome website, and you can enrol by selecting the ‘University halls of residence’ or ‘University owned property’ and then clicking next, once you have arrived in Southampton you can update these details at a later date.

How is accommodation allocated?

Priority will be given to students who have special housing needs for reasons of ill-health or medical reasons. Accommodation is NOT allocated on a first come first served basis and every student applying within this time frame has an equal chance of being offered one of their preferences.

What if I change my mind?

If you are not able to progress to your studies we will cancel your tenancy.                                                                                                                     If you do not arrive in the UK but begin studies (online), you will be liable for your rent from the contract start date unless you cancel your contract  You can cancel your contract before you have moved into your accommodation and before the contract start date, you will not be liable for any rent payments
Unless you have collected the keys for your accommodation you may cancel your booking by sending an e-mail to accommodation@soton.ac.uk at any time before the contract start date

Why do I need a separate quarantine contract?

You will be offered a quarantine contract, at a discounted rate, from the date of your arrival until 25 September 2021 (your main accommodation contract start date). The price will include a bedding pack, kitchen items and a food parcel to meet your initial needs. Details on what is included in these packs will be sent in your quarantine contract offer email. We will offer you the quarantine contract in the same room that you will live in for the rest of the academic year, where possible.

Parking in Halls

We strongly encourage our students not to bring cars to the University. This is because:

cars impact the environment
extra traffic impacts the local community
many of our halls of residence are within walking distance of our main campuses
Unilink offers a regular bus service around our locations in Southampton, and you’ll get a free pass when you live in halls
Who can request a parking space at our halls
We’ll offer you a space if you have a certified medical condition that means you need a car. You can also request a space if exceptional circumstances mean that you have to bring your car with you to University. Please email parking@soton.ac.uk to make your request before you arrive at your accommodation.

Parking on local streets

You’ll need a residents’ parking permit to park for more than 2 hours on most streets around our halls and campuses. The City Council does not provide these permits to students in halls of residence.

How to get a visitor parking permit

You can buy 3 visitor parking permits per term if you live in halls in Southampton (excluding City Gateway and Mayflower). You can use these when family and friends come to visit you.

When will I get my room number

We would recommend wherever possible that you wait until you have arrived in your halls before you start purchasing items that you may want to help settle in.

You will not be provided your room number until you have arrived in Southampton and when you are collecting your keys.

After you’ve moved in, if you realise you’ve left something important at home, you'll be able to get it posted to you. You’ll find your new address details on the back of your room door. All letters and parcels are delivered directly to your halls reception where it’ll be held securely until you are able to collect it.

What does my Room Number mean?

You can find detailed breakdowns of what your room number means in our knowledge base here.
