Short term support

Short term support

If there is an issue with your expected funding being received at the start of the academic year, then we may be able to provide short term support to give you time to sort out the issues.

If this is a concern then please come and see us at our weekly drop-in which is on every Wednesday from 9.30-11.30 in the Student Services Centre, Highfield campus (please bring or have access to a bank statement covering the last 28 days).

Depending on your situation we will look at whether we can provide emergency funding to ensure that you can buy food and essentials. We are unable to provide funding through short term support to cover rent payments.

If this is a concern and you are in university accommodation contact the Student Advice Team either in person at the Student Services Centre, by email, ssc@soton.ac.uk or phone + 44(0)2380 599 599 to let them know there is a delay in your funding.

You will need to provide documentation confirming that you have applied for statutory funding.

If you are in private rented accommodation, then you will need to explain the situation to your landlord. If you require a letter confirming your financial situation then this can be discussed at the drop-in.

If you would like to discuss your financial situation in more detail, or if your situation is urgent, please speak to a member of Student Advice Team either in person at the Student Services Centre, or by email ssc@soton.ac.uk  or phone +44(0)2380 599 599.

If, at the drop-in the advisor decides that you need to apply for longer-term support from the Student Support Fund, they will arrange for you to be sent an application pack. If you find that you have any difficulty in completing the pack then the advisor can help you with this at a drop-In, or you can contact the Advice Centre at the Student's Union, 023 8059 2085, advice@susu.org for assistance.
