Short term support

Short term support

If you have submitted an application to Student Finance / NHS bursary scheme and you have yet to receive your funding and therefore don't have enough money to cover basic essentials such as food, utilities and travel then we may be able to provide with a small amount of support to tide you over until you receive your funds.

 If you would like to be considered for support please either email, stufunds@soton.ac.uk or book an online drop-in with one of our advisors, so that we can assess your situation and wat action is required.

If it is agreed that you are eligible to apply for support you will be provided with the link for the short term application which you will need to complete and submit. You will also need to submit an up to date bank statement for ANY bank account you have access to, including savings account. The bank statements should cover the last 30 days.

Please submit the application and bank statements TOGETHER to; stufunds@soton.ac.uk with the following subject line;

Your name Student ID Short term support

If we do not consider it appropriate to assess you for short term support, a member of the team will contact you to either discuss your situation or request you submit a full application.

We are able to provide up to four weeks support in any one instance.

If you find yourself in unexpected financial difficulty and require longer term support we encourage you to complete a full Student Support Fund application, This requires much more detailed information as we will be potentially assessing you for the entire academic year. Please read the information on our web pages before submitting the completed full application and supporting documentation.

We will not, as standard provide short term support in respect of rent. Most student landlords understand that delays sometimes happen and are usually supportive, but if you do need assistance then please include this in your application, or email stufunds@soton.ac.uk  and a member of the team will be happy to discuss your situation in more detail.

If you are provided with Short term support, then please contact Student Finance and/or NHS bursary in this time to try and resolve any funding issues. If you need help with this then please contact the Advice Centre at the details below.

If you have been advised by Student Finance/NHS that it will take longer than four weeks to resolve the issue then please let us know by emailing; stufunds@soton.ac.uk

If it is agreed to provide you with support, this will usually be paid directly into your UK bank account. Please ensure that the university holds your bank details which you can now do online via Self Service on SUSSED.
You can access Self Service here. Click on Personal Information and then Update Payment Details.

Payments usually reach an account within five working days.

Please be aware that all support is discretionary and cannot be guaranteed.

If your funding from Student Finance is delayed please email the Student Support Hub at ssc@soton.ac.uk to let them know. They can update your account so that you are not chased for tuition /accommodation fees. You will need to provide documentation showing you have applied for a loan.
