Transitioning to the UK to complete studies

If you are:
• enrolled at our Malaysia campus    AND;
• coming to the UK as part as of a collaborative programme    AND;
• you require a visa to study in the UK

then it is important that you apply for your visa in good time.

Please find below, a step-by-step guide on what you need to do and when you need to do it so that you can get your visa to be able to travel to the UK to start your programme of study on time.

Guidance for University of Southampton Malaysia students

Please read in conjunction with the University of Southampton Malaysia 'UoSM Student Transition' Sharepoint – you will be given access to this in the lead up to your transition.

April ATAS clearance - if your programme of study requires ATAS clearance then you must obtain that before you apply for your visa.

If you need ATAS and you apply for your visa without it, your visa application will be refused.

Refer to our ATAS webpage and the governmental ATAS webpage for the latest timescales on ATAS including processing time and how early you can apply.

ATAS referees – please follow the governmental guidance. Consider providing additional referees and/or making use of free text boxes to elaborate on your circumstances.

CAS questionnaire

 

Visa application

If you need ATAS clearance, and haven't applied, visit our ATAS webpage and apply immediately as you will need it before your application.

Once you have received confirmation that you have passed your exams and are allowed to proceed to study in the UK then please complete and return a CAS questionnaire.

CAS statement

Visa application

You will receive your CAS statement in early July (provided that you have completed and returned the CAS questionnaire & are eligible).

Using our webpages for guidance, submit your visa application by the end of July. Remember to select the University of Southampton as the collection point for your Biometric Residence Permit (your visa); our Alternative Collection Location code is 2HE382.

August Preparing for arrival

September Arrival in Southampton

Attend induction events and complete your right to study check.
