Southampton Specific Resources - International Students

Tips for Teaching International Students - This powerpoint was created by Jill Doubleday, an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) tutor from Modern Languages, and presented at an EVA Exchange of Good Practice event within the Faculty of Humanities on June 16th 2011. The same resource was subsequently used for the Post Graduate Teaching Assistants (PGTAs) training for the Humanities and Social Sciences Academic Skills modules.

Jill Doubleday can be contacted for advice about teaching international students, and would be happy to discuss giving this talk to other university colleagues.

The International Student Workshop Activity Pack is a resource that provides guidance for planning and organising Workshops that can help international students to investigate cultural differences, social and academic practice in the UK and discuss challenges and strategies to overcome them. The resource was developed by the Transition Project as a result of the experiences collected while piloting the International Student Workshops in 2010.

The activity pack includes:

- Scenarios for British Culture Workshop
- Scenarios for British Learning Workshop
- Facilitators Briefing Notes
- Training Outline
- Workshops Feedback Form
- Promotional Flyer
- Representatives in the panel for 2010 pilot

Southampton Specific Resources - Undergraduates

The Development of Criticality among Undergraduates in Two Academic Disciplines: Social Work and Modern Languages was a two-year project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). The project was designed to expand current understanding of the development of criticality among undergraduates through a cross-sectional study of students following undergraduate degree courses.
